DESCRIPTION:AMFA luncheon meeting at Elk's Lodge in Virginia on Wednesday\, April 11\n\n\n\nDiscussion Topic:\n\nOrbs\, Lines\, and Magnets: Coding and Circuit Basics for Kids\n\nThanks to a generous AMFA grant\, K-5 students at Bay View Elementary have had the privilege of using Spheros\, Ozobots\, and Little Bits in the STEM classroom. See how these technologies can be tools for teaching coding and circuitry basics\, in addition to intriguing and engaging students. Come try your hand at coding and driving a Sphero or building with Little Bits.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speakers:\n\nDiane Morin\, Principal & Hannah Christenson\, STEM Teacher\, Bay View Elementary\n\nDiane Morin is the Principal at Bay View Elementary in the Proctor Public Schools\, serving K-5 grade students.  Before working for Proctor Public Schools\, Ms. Morin was hired by AMFA-ET to provide area schools with resources and information about careers in manufacturing in the arrowhead region.\n\n\n\nHannah Christenson teaches K-5 STEM and Music at Bay View Elementary. In addition to teaching\, she is culminating her MAED Technology Integration program by researching with two other teachers in the field of computational thinking. Their research is titled\, "Confidence and Common Challenges: The Effects of Teaching Computational Thinking to 10-16 Year Old Students."  When not at school\, Hannah enjoys hiking with her husband\, Paul\, and dog\, Samson\, board gaming\, and baking.\n\n\n\nTour:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRMSTritec is a large-scale fabrication and machine shop and wear plate distributor.  A tour or RMSTritec might feature mining haul truck boxes in for rebuilds\,  buckets in for a rebuild\, and other miscellaneous projects.  The main shop is 20\,000 square feet\, with a secondary 3\,000 square foot shop on site.  RMSTritec serves the mining\, paper\, power\, sand and gravel\, and other industries.  Tritec Steel was bought by Road Machinery and Supply (RMS) in November 2017.
